One Third

For me, there is nothing like watching a number and a chart rise to a finale. I have been making progress through the first draft and currently sit at a third of the way through my projected numbers. I'm not sure how accurate my projected total will be as some scenes have been smaller while others have been larger. They might average out to put me close to my target. I'm aiming for 100k giving me wiggle room to add in missing details while also removing anything extra.

My outline has been pretty spot on right now, but I did have a great 'ah ha' moment earlier while writing that made the motivation for the inciting incident much more convincing and plausible. With a few tweaks, and sadly the lost of an entire scene, I was able to make the change for my main character much stronger.
My imposed deadline is the end of October, and while I have made a third of my word count, I am actually more than a third of the scene numbers into the writing. So I will either finish early, or finish over target. At some point in that time period, I have to edit my next short story to submit to Writer of the Future as well as possibly write another, or fix up something from my backlog of shorts. The deadline for the forth quarter is the end of September, plenty of time unless I put it off for too long.
If you haven't joined my mailing list, please take the time to do so. I send most of the blog post through email saving a trip to the site. And I only send one update a month. Newsletters will also be a place where I would be looking for beta readers, and will begin sending out excerpts from my books or short stories.

And for anyone interested in writing courses, I have used the Ultimate Fantasy Writers Guide in the past for helping me gain beginners knowledge of writing. There are also modules for self-publishing, including cover design and interior copy editing. The course opens twice a year and is opening now until September 7th for anyone interested. More information can be found in my guest posts from February or by going directly to the course page where they also have the first module available and a mini course. They also have a great Plot Development outlining book if you just want something cheaper. I was part of their typo team and read it for free and found it to be a great resource for solidifying some of the outlining and plot development parts I wasn't sure about. Yes, these are affiliate links but that does not affect your price and does help me continue to write.
