Chickens, like most birds, love suet. It is a great source of energy for them especially in the cold months of winter. Hanging a block for them also provides a little enrichment as they try to get to the hanging block.

Makes: 2 cups fat, make 3 blocks
Prep time: 10 minutes
Total time: 2 hours
Ingredients:
1 part fat (can be a combination of: lard, peanut butter, bacon fat, coconut oil)
1 part mix ins (can be a combination of: grains, seeds, nuts, dried fruit, rolled oats, corn meal, flour)
Instructions:
Melt fat together to fully incorporate. If fats are too soft the block will be hard to handle later.
Allow fat to cool until partially solidified. Stir in the mix ins until combined. If the mixture is too soft, add rolled oats or flour to stiffen the mixture.
Pour into a small tray or small containers. Chill until firm. Place in the freezer another hour to make unmolding easier.
Cut into blocks and wrap. Store in a cool dry place, or in the freezer until needed.
